How to Stop Dog Whining

stop dog whiningPeople want to stop dog whining because it is very annoying and because they want their dog to be happy. If they're constantly whining, it makes you feel like you're doing something wrong, doesn't it?

Fortunately, you should know that a puppy or a dog whining does not mean that they are feeling sad and abused (though they could be, and they can be doing it because they're in pain, too). It's normal behavior, especially for a puppy. That doesn't mean they have to do it though!

If you're dealing with a puppy, then it's very easy to stop dog whining, and it's a good idea to do it as soon as possible! You don't want them to get used to doing it, and you definitely don't want them to think that if they do it, they'll get attention. Deep down, your dog whines because they don't want to feel alone. They're pack animals, and they need companionship.

Stop Dog Whining - Do These Things First

In order to stop dog whining, you need to make sure that your pet is comfortable, safe, and taken care of. That way, you'll be able to figure out exactly what is making them so sad.

1. Make sure your dog has enough water, especially when it gets hot outside. Sometimes dogs will whine if they are thirsty, and simply helping them to quench their thirst will do the trick. I like to make sure my dog's bowl is always full of water, so there is no chance that she will ever run out.

2. Your dog needs a nice comfortable place where they can feel secure and warm. Whether your dog stays inside your house or outside, they need to have a place where they can relax, be it in a crate, a kennel, on a doggy bed, or a nice spot on the lawn. This will almost immediately stop dog whining.

3. For inside dogs, enough potty breaks are necessary. Your dog might be whining because they need to go outside to do their business. Obviously this is not applicable to outside dogs, but a lot of owners forget this.

4. Give your dog a few toys to chew on and play with. Dogs are like humans and can easily get bored. If they are going to be home alone all day, then it is crucial for you to give them toys. Though you might never see it, they will play with their toys and chew on them and that will make them very happy. This will help to stop dog whining quickly.

5. Give your dog sufficient exercise! Though all breeds require varying levels of exercise, each one needs some amount. If your dog is whining and you haven't played with them or taken them on a walk, that could be what they need. If you can, avoid immediately responding to their whining by bringing out the leash. You don't want your dog to think that every time they want something, they should whine. Wait for them to quiet down, and then immediately reward them with exercise.

6. If your dog seems to be acting strange, they might be in pain. If nothing you do seems to stop your dog from whining, you should consider taking them to the vet. It's better to be absolutely sure that they are in good health than it is to just hope they'll stop whining. Remember, they have no other way of telling you that something is bothering them than by whining.

Stop Dog Whining - Extra Tips
